1950 Willys Overland Jeepster Convertible. Presented in mile-deep Campus Red with Black Folding Soft Top over an excellent Black with Red Piping Interior and powered by a 6-Cylinder 'Lightning' engine with 3-speed transmission (w/overdrive) this 1950 Jeepster was an ingenious design by renowned designer Brooks Stevens, which combined a four-passenger phaeton with soft top that evoked the appearance of the wartime Jeep, and this is a fabulous example. Since it was positioned as a road-going two-door car, the Jeepster was available only with rear-wheel drive. Working heater and all gauges & lights work properly. New brakes. The interior shows in fabulous condition throughout, the canvas top is 'like new' condition, as is the boot cover. All brightwork and trim shines clear and bright. Stock Steel Body. Chrome Bumpers. Correct Willys polished hubcaps on red painted wheels with newer wide whites. Rear-mounted spare tire. This Jeepster also has side-curtains for keeping the elements out. Ready to drive, show and enjoy - this Jeepster is an eye-catcher and has the look that will make it an instant hit at any show or cruise in.
The trademark square Jeep fenders are present on the Jeepster, but the chrome-plated step-pads, beltline trim and other brightwork were intended to add some eye-appeal for the car-buying public of the day. Drum brakes at all 4 corners provided the stopping power, and the Jeepster's front end and single transverse leaf spring suspension was the same as that used on the Willys Station Wagon, as was the rear driveline. The longitudinal rear leaf springs and the flat-top rear fenders were direct take-offs from the Jeep truck. In total, only 19,132 Jeepsters were produced during its 3-year production run from 1948-1950.
The Jeepster has an undeniable charm and has nearly universal acceptance among car enthusiasts, equally welcome in the company of hot rods as it is at Pebble Beach. They make cheerful summer cruisers and are simple to maintain. You certainly wouldn't be far from the mark if you said the Jeepster was the original "crossover" vehicle, since it was indeed an attempt at being a passenger car while still maintaining some of the traditional Jeep traits and appearance.
