NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence Award winning 1966 Chevrolet Corvette. Laguna Blue / Blue, White Soft Top, 427ci / 425hp V8, 4-speed manual, bucket seats, wood rim steering wheel, side pipes, factory wheel covers w/ spinners. NCRS Judging sheets and original purchase paperwork included. 2002 Duntov award winner.
Impeccably restored in the 2000s and well cared for by limited ownership since new, this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette is a stunning, NCRS Duntov Award-winning roadster. This Corvette carries with it a laundry list of accolades and documentation, including the original purchase paperwork when it was ordered new and NCRS judging sheets. It is a numbers-matching example and the odometer shows what is believed to be 29,997 original miles. This Corvette was previously owned by Otis Chandler, publisher of the Los Angeles Times from 1960 -- 1980, and noted car collector.
When it comes to awards for restored Corvettes, there is no higher decoration than the NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence Award. Only applicable to 1953 -- 1974 model years, a Corvette first must earn NCRS Top Flight status with a minimum score of 97% at either a regional or national NCRS event. It must then undergo an NCRS "Performance Verification" during which all components and functions must operate as new -- without a single failure. Upon completed of the Performance Verification, the Corvette must obtain a second Top Flight Status, this time at a National event only, again with a minimum score of 97%. All has to be completed within a three-year period. Needless to say, the Duntov Award is extremely difficult to achieve. Of the 14,667 NCRS Top Flight awardees since 1985, just 6% (978) have earned Duntov Mark of Excellence.
According to the original purchase paperwork, this Corvette, Serial No. 194676S106515, was delivered new in Decatur, Illinois in May 1967. Dressed in Laguna Blue (978) over Blue Vinyl (418BA), this Corvette sported some of the most desirable options available. Under the hood was an L72 427ci/425hp V8 with side pipes and a Muncie M21 4-Speed manual transmission driving a Positraction rear end. Under the white convertible top, it featured vinyl bucket seats, AM/FM radio and a wood-rim steering wheel.
Restored in the early 2000s, this Corvette is a superb example of C2 production. As would be expected of a Duntov Award Winner, the engine & drivetrain are all original and numbers matching, and the car is presented in its factory-correct colors and configuration. The original purchase paperwork, NCRS judging sheets and NCRS awards are on file, along with restoration photos and maintenance receipts.
Duntov Award-winning Corvettes are extremely hard to come by, and rarely come up for sale. In fact, this is only the second Duntov-winning example we've had in recent memory. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity. Call 425.562.1000 or stop by the Park Place LTD showroom in Bellevue.
