1968 Chevrolet Camaro Resto-Mod
When new, the hottest engine from the factory for a Camaro was a 396ci V8 that produced 325 horsepower- at the time, few things on the street could beat it. But for this build, the owner specified a brand new fuel injected LS7 crate motor- displacing 427ci, the car now produces a staggering 506 horsepower at the wheels and, when run through a Tremec T-56 6-speed manual transmission and John Industries 9" rear end with 3.70 gears, will out accelerate just about anything on the road. That being said, this car was not just built to be fast in a straight line- the entire suspension has been completely redesigned for both improved handling and comfort on the road. Starting up front, a Ride Tech TruTurn suspension setup fixes the stock Camaro's issues with bump-steer while also improving the camber and caster to make the car handle phenomenally. This upgrade when paired with a set of Ride Tech coilovers, gives greater ride height adjustability and more clearance for extra wide front tires. A quick ratio steering rack has been added to make the car more agile and fun to drive fast. Moving to the rear, Ride Tech's 4-link rear setup has been paired with subframe connectors to stiffen up the chassis and tie the vehicle together. A set of beautiful gray centered Forgeline GA3 wheels-18" in front and 19" in the rear- allowed the builder to fit enough rubber under the car to keep it stuck to the road and a set of mini-tubs out back give clearance for the massive 325 section rear tires. When building a well rounded performance car, going fast and handling well aren't the only factors you need to consider, slowing the car down is just as important. Keeping this in mind, a set of 4-Piston power assisted Baer brakes with 14" rotors have been installed along with stainless steel lines to give a solid pedal feel after even the most spirited drives.
It would be a crime to make a car that drives this well and leave the looks of it alone-thankfully the team at Chris Holstrom Concepts understands this well and made a car that looks just as outstanding as it drives. When you first approach the car, it is clear that countless hours were spent making sure the car was straight as an arrow and all the panel gaps were perfect before any paint was applied to the car. Once the time came to lay down the stunning Bright Red finish, the car was sent to experienced painter Austin Riddler who did a flawless job, seamlessly integrating the signature Camaro black nose stripe and giving the whole car a mirror-like finish. The exterior of the car looks largely stock but some subtle updates have been made to update the vehicle- a set of LED tail-lights that look original at first glance but provide much better illumination and an RS electric headlight door kit replaces the notoriously finicky original vacuum unit and ensure your headlights always open when you need them. On the inside, the car was fully outfitted with Dynamat to keep the noise and heat down, and then Stitches Custom Upholstery got their hands on it. The dual front bucket seats were replaced with units from a BMW E46 M3 that were reupholstered in leather to mimic an original set of Camaro seats-to the casual observer, these look like they could have been stock seats but are more comfortable, provide additional bolstering and feature full power adjustment. The steering wheel was replaced with a Billet "D" shaped wheel with tilt function and the stereo has been upgraded with Bluetooth and a backup camera. Dakota Digital gauges give accurate readings while not straying too far from the original appearance and a custom center console with cupholders round out the custom touches inside.
It is no surprise that once this project was completed, the car went on to win the Chevy Muscle Pick at Good Guys Puyallup Nationals in 2021. Whether you choose to use the car for driving events or for hitting the show circuit, you can do so knowing that you have one of the country's best Camaros that is guaranteed to provide enjoyment for years to come.

As soon as the Chevrolet Camaro went on sale in 1967, it became an American icon. The combination of its chiseled, muscle car lines along with a suite of high performance V8 options made the first generation Camaro one of the most sought after cars of the era. Quickly people began modifying their Camaros to suit their uses, some set them up to handle road courses while others dropped in larger engines for drag racing- the car was such a versatile platform that it was successful in all of them. When the resto-mod style started becoming popular, the Camaro became the go-to base for people's projects- already a fantastic looking car, some subtle mods and a powerful modern engine made for an extremely appealing package.
This 1968 Camaro takes that resto-mod ethos to an extreme, built by world famous Chris Holstrom Concepts in Puyallup, WA, no bolt has been left unturned through the creation of this car.
