1970 Pontiac Firebird One Concept Car. One-of-a-Kind Futuristic Design by famed Harry Bradley. Red on Tan Leather. 17,456 miles. 350ci 255HP/355 lb-ft torque V8, Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 Auto Transmission. Custom Front Bucket Seats, Wood grained dashboard.
The Pontiac 'ONE' was created to be a vivid glimpse into the future of Firebird. The car's design theme combines the look of speed with the elegance of three dimensional form. The dramatically dropped beltline visually lowers the car while the bold rear wheel forms suggest sheer power and energy. The front windshield was laid back five inches, the roof line chopped three inches and disc style wheel coverings give an aerodynamic, sleek profile.
Notable design cues include 6 hood air intakes which thrust forward from the cowl to the very front of the nose, as well as a jewel-like, concealed tail lamp assembly that incorporates an optical reflector system with an elegant prismatic lens. This fully operational hand crafted automobile may well be the final example of sleek, stylish American design prototypes.
This remarkable one-off concept vehicle was a Pontiac Show Car proposal based upon the second generation Firebird. The 'ONE' was born from the creative vision of famed GM designer Harry Bentley Bradley, who would later become the first Hot Wheels designer for Mattel. Bradley was instrumental in launching the Hot Wheels brand. He contributed to various publications such as Street Rodder, Customs Illustrated and Rod & Custom. Bradley also designed the pop culture favorite Oscar Mayer Wienermobile in 1993. Harry designed everything from plastic model kits to full size hot rods and custom cars.
The 'ONE' was built by GM engineer Dave Crook, who became one of the nation's leading specialty car builders. Dave Crook began his career at GM with Fisher Body Division. His exceptional skills in prototype engineering and construction, as well as his design sensitivity, came to the attention of Bill Mitchell, GM's design vice president. Mr. Mitchell personally recruited and transferred Mr. Crook to GM's design staff in New York half way through Firebird one build project. Dave had the Title of Head Technical Designer and shared his knowledge with the GM design staff. Since Dave lived in Connecticut later in the final build stages, the first drive and test was done in the streets of Connecticut.
Personally Autographed Memorabilia from Dave Crook, (the Builder of this Firebird One), and a letter of documentation from GM design staff is available with the car.
