This 2001 M3 Convertible has everything you could want in an open-top sports car---rocket-sled acceleration, excellent handling, and muscular good looks. Though there's plenty of power, the ultimate allure of the M3 is its handling prowess, on par with most any genuine sports car. The handsome, special M spoked alloy wheels hold pavement hugging 18" Michelin Pilot Sport tires, which have deep tread. Shown here in M-exclusive Imola Red, arguably the best color for an E46, with performance updates including a Dinan exhaust, and AFE cold air intake, plus an Evo III short shift kit.
As you would expect, the black Nappa leather upholstered cockpit is neatly trimmed, offering both form and function. The convertible top is fully lined, and impressively tight. All the usual power acoutrements and conveniences are standard, including one-touch convertible top operation incorporating a mechanized hard boot, making top retraction painless. More than adequate luggage space, along with room for more than two people, makes this convertible a practical proposition.
Though they are similar in dimensions and appearance to the regular BMW 330Ci coupe and convertible, the M editions have some distinct differences. The M editions get a 333-hp, 3.2-liter inline-six-cylinder with stepless, (or continuous), variable valve timing. A Getrag six-speed-manual transmission is used, and an M Variable Differential Lock enhances handling and traction on slippery surfaces. Other distinct M3-only enhancements include, aero front bumper with a mesh center air intake and elliptical fog lights. An aluminum hood boasting a subtle "power dome" gives a subtle hint to the M powerplant contained below. Wheel openings are flared outward to accommodate the wide tires. "Gills" behind the front wheel openings display an M3 emblem, and the side mirrors have a distinct aero shape. An M-only rear bumper with quad exhaust tips solidify its intent, and M3 models have a wider front and rear track than their less potent BMW mates, as well as unique suspension and underbody components.
This three owner example had its most recent service performed at 40k miles, and new tires have less than 200 miles on them. Included are owner's books, extra key, service records, and clean Carfax.
