1964 Chrysler New Yorker Four Door Post Sedan
This 1964 Chrysler New Yorker is a wonderfully restored example of one of Chrysler's greatest luxury cars from an era where their design and build quality were second to none in the American car hierarchy. Finished in White, it is evident when you start looking closely at this New Yorker that considerable work has been spent to get the body completely dialed in. Even and straight panel gaps are present around the vehicle and the large flat panels are free of waves or high spots in the paint. As with any luxury car from the 1960s, this New Yorker has a tremendous amount of chrome all the way around the car with multiple pieces running nearly the entire length of the vehicle. Once again, the chrome is in remarkable condition and shows no signs of pitting or being misshapen. On a car of this size, none of these things are small tasks and someone clearly went to considerable effort to make this New Yorker look as good as the day it rolled out of the showroom.
The interior of the New Yorker is where the work and high end finishings truly show through. Both front and rear bench seats are trimmed with white vinyl and have wonderfully period patterned cloth centers. The dashboard is very jet-age in its design with switches and gauges covering the area in front of the driver and a curved dash cap made to match the curved windshield. The steering wheel is a wild piece of design as well- not a circle and not a square, the oblong wheel is guaranteed to be a talking point at any car show and just one of the many unique design features from Chrysler of the era. The original AM/FM radio sits just above the driver's left knee but a modern Pioneer unit with Bluetooth connectivity is installed in the glovebox out of sight.
Under the hood lies a torquey 413ci Chrysler V8 with a 4bbl carburetor sitting on top. Producing 340 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, it is plenty to get this large car moving and will easily keep up with modern traffic. That power is sent through a 3-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission with dashboard mounted push button gear selector. The rear axle has a Sure-Grip limited slip differential and 2.76 gears which help this New Yorker be the perfect highway cruiser. Naturally as a top of the line luxury car, the New Yorker comes with power steering and power brakes and is rolling on a set of radial white wall tires for greater handling and safety. To see this car in person is to truly appreciate how much work has gone into the restoration and preservation of this beautiful luxury car. This would be a great addition to any garage for the person who wants a fun, capable classic that they can take the whole family out in, weather for a weekend drive or a week long road trip, this car will provide years of enjoyment.
