The Third Generation Ford Thunderbird was redesigned for the 1961 to 1963 model years, with new styling that gave the car a unique bullet-like body side appearance. New for the generation, Novel features included a swing-away steering column for graceful entry and exit. A convertible top that stowed away in the trunk under a reverse-opening deck lid, leaving no visible boot. The door handles were incorporated into the side trim, thickly padded bucket seats, and a wide center console were added. A new engine was also introduced for this year, the 390 cubic inch V8, rated at 300 hp and was mated to a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission and remains original for this example. Finished in Rangoon Red, with fully restored black leather interior to stay true to the original factory specification. Power steering and power brakes came standard, but the list of factory options ordered from new makes for impressive reading and in full working order; air conditioning, power retractable roof, power windows, AM/FM radio, and factory seatbelts. Riding on a set of Kelsey-Hayes-Style wire wheels and a full set of Koker Wide Whitewall tire.
