1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS Resto-Mod
The early Chevrolet Camaro is a car that symbolizes the Pony Car wars of the late 1960s. But with a significant redesign going into the 1969 model year, the Camaro left the world of Pony Cars, instead becoming a full fledged muscle car. With its more angular edges and exaggerated rear haunch, the 1969 Camaro is arguably the one everybody wants and is a blast to drive stock but also takes quite well to modifications.
This 1969 Camaro SS is presented in stunning black over black with white SS stripes. It has been the subject of some significant upgrades that make it go, stop and handle far better than anything Chevrolet built in the period. The more aggressive lines on the 1969 Camaro look stunning in black and are complimented by a set of American Racing 5-spoke mag wheels with modern performance tires on them. Sitting behind those wheels is a set of 4-wheel Wilwood disc brakes that offer exceptional stopping power and make the car both more fun and more confidence inspiring to use on a daily basis. The chrome around the car is in exceptional condition and the rear bumper features longer overriders that dip down below the lower scuttle panel. To give this Camaro a bit more of a Trans-Am race car look, a lower splitter has been installed up front, which is then paired with a decklid spoiler in the rear that helps keep the car planted at speed.
The interior has also been completely gone-through with the seats wrapped in a beautiful combination of black vinyl with houndstooth centers front and rear. Slide into the driver's seat and you are met by a beautiful wood-rimmed 3-spoke steering wheel that frames a speedometer and tachometer, while auxiliary gauges are mounted in front of the shifter on the console. This interior was done largely to factory specifications and it retains all of the original charm including an AM/FM stereo and a period-correct looking Hurst shifter with a cue-ball shift knob.
As good as this car looks, where it really shines is under the hood. In place of the original iron-block V8, an all aluminum 6.2-liter LS3 V8 has been fitted with electronic ignition which is controlled by a fender-mounted MSD box. Mounted to the sides of the engine are a set of Dyna Tech headers with a full stainless 3-inch dual exit exhaust that dumps out the back and gives the car the quintessential muscle car sound. Power is routed through a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels via a 12-bolt Detroit Truetrac rear end. To help the car handle more sure footedly, a 4-link rear suspension has been fitted along with subframe connectors and composite rear leaf springs. When all of this is combined with power brakes and power steering, it perfectly combines the classic and modern driving experiences in a single vehicle.
The 1969 Camaro SS is one of the most instantly recognizable American classics ever produced and is the ideal starting point for resto-modding. This car was built properly, with a focus on just subtle visual modifications, while seriously beefing up everything under the skin, making it a car that doesn't just look good in the garage, but also a machine you can't wait to get out and drive.
