1998 Shelby Cobra Roadster - Shell Valley Replica
The 427 Shelby Cobra is one of the most desirable and expensive vehicles in the world of classic cars. With less than 1,000 examples produced, prices go deep into the 7-figures if you wanted to put one in your garage. But, for the enthusiast who wants to experience what makes the Cobra so exciting, many manufacturers have sprung up over the last 40 years to produce replicas that give you all the driving thrills, at a fraction of the cost. One company that has been manufacturing high quality replicas for decades is Shell Valley out of Palatte Center, Nebraska. Built from Kevlar reinforced body panels, these cars are based on a 1966 427 Cobra and offer countless options for customization.
This 1998 Shell Valley Cobra is finished in the quintessential Cobra color combination of Sapphire Blue with white over the top stripes. With a set of chrome side exhausts snaking out the side of the car, this Cobra makes an exceptional noise and when paired with a 3-inch roll bar behind the driver, the car truly looks the part. This Cobra sits on a set of 17-inch Shelby America polished wheels which are designed in the style of a classic Cobra wheel, but allow for modern tires and bigger brakes to sit behind them.
The Interior is finished in the classic, simple Cobra style, with a pair of black leather bucket seats and a large wood-rimmed wheel in front of the driver. The seats are paired with 4-point harnesses and the center console is fitted with the classic canted-forward shift lever that was a 427 Cobra hallmark. The majority of the gauges are situated in the center of the dashboard including a 160 mph speedometer, tachometer and oil and water temperature gauges. Unlike an original Cobra, this car is fitted with a stereo that is controlled by a Kenwood head unit, which is paired with Blaupunkt speakers.
Under the hood sits a 428ci Cobra Jet V8 that has been built with a hydraulic cam which is paired with an Edelbrock aluminum intake and aluminum heads. For added reliability, an MSD ignition and alternator are fitted, and a 16-inch electric cooling fan is situated up front. This setup is rated at 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque and sends power through a Tremec T-5 5-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels. Suspension is handled by a Jaguar independent setup in the rear with a 3.91 positraction differential and Aldan American coilovers are fitted at all 4 corners. SSBC disc brakes are fitted at all four wheels with stainless lines throughout.
