2001 AM General Hummer H1 Predator
The HMMWV was a vehicle designed with one purpose- to be able to safely and effectively transport military personnel over nearly any surface, in extreme weather, and reliably keep going. The US Military began receiving these new vehicles in the mid-1980s but once media began to come out of the Persian Gulf War in 1992 and the public saw these rugged, aggressive looking trucks, people began asking for an HMMWV of their own. With some prompting from media personalities like famed actor Arnold Schwartzenegger, AM General began offering what was now known as the Hummer H1 to the public in 1992. The H1 became the ultimate statement vehicle and quickly gained a dedicated following with many owners having multiple H1s in their garages. This 2001 Hummer H1 Wagon is a unique example that was custom built for Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's second baseman Howard Kendrick and benefits from a list of upgrades from Predator Motorsports that make it far better to drive while also giving it some fantastic visual enhancements.
It wasn't until the 2006 H1 Alpha that Hummer improved the truck with a 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 or a 5-speed Allison transmission. Prior to this, the H1 had numerous engine options- both gas and diesel- that were all fine for driving around town but didn't offer the necessary power to really move a vehicle of this size on the highway. To solve this, Predator Motorsports has swapped in that coveted 6.6-liter turbo diesel Duramax V8 which they have fitted with numerous performance parts to produce 550 horsepower and a staggering 1,000 lb-ft of torque. The modifications started with a Rap Torq Engine Control Module which can precisely tune in air/fuel ratio, ignition and boost control, this was paired to an aluminum intercooler and a 4-inch exhaust to help the engine flow better. This makes the truck way more exciting to drive and, according to Predator Motorsports, if driven conservatively can achieve up to 22 MPG on the freeway. To keep it cool, Predator installed their Duramax Cooling Package which includes a high performance aluminum radiator. Backing this up is an Allison 6-Speed automatic transmission with Stage-4 Predator upgrades and a 2/4 wheel drive selectable dual-range transfer case.
During Predator Motorsport's modifications, the exterior was also significantly enhanced to give the truck an even more purposeful aesthetic. The paint color is a unique matte silver color that was originally found on the Lamborghini Aventador and looks unbelievable in person. A Predator direct flow hood scoop keeps air moving through the intercooler and the whole front of the truck is surrounded by a massive matte black bull bar that extends up and over the hood to almost to the windshield. An enormous roof rack has been installed with a rear ladder and LED lights have been installed all over the car- including a 50" Baja Designs light bar. For even greater off road potential, heavy duty winches have been installed both front and rear and the wheels have been replaced by a set of 22" American Force Recon wheels wrapped in Nitto Trail Grappler M/T tires.
Under the truck, Predator remote reservoir shocks have been paired with a 2 inch body lift which gives the truck an outstanding stance. Six piston brake calipers have been installed all the way around and are custom built by Predator Motorsport to help slow the vehicle down and are paired with vented rotors.
Inside, a standard Hummer H1 is a very industrial feeling cabin to spend time in as the civilian versions didn't receive significant updates from the military spec trucks. This has also been addressed in this H1, black leather covers the dashboard, massive center console, and door panels which instantly gives the truck a more upscale feeling. The seats have been reupholstered in black leather as well with suede inserts and seat heaters have been installed. A new JVC stereo head unit with navigation sits in the center console and an all important backup camera helps you see what you're doing when backing up this massive truck.
If you want to buy a truck that will stand out from the crowd, it is hard to do better than this Hummer H1. With its long list of upgrades from Predator Motorsports, not only is it unique, but it is also way more fun to drive than a standard model. This is the perfect vehicle for anybody with a large piece of property or a remote living situation that wants one vehicle to do everything in style and comfort.
