Power comes from a high-strung 220hp 1.8L Supercharged 4-Cylinder Engine with a 6-Speed Manual Trans. Track Pack (Adjustable Bilstein dampers with threaded spring perches -Compression and rebound are adjusted simultaneously with a single knob on the bottom of each damper), Limited Slip Differential with Lotus Traction Control (Torque-sensing limited slip differential designed to distribute power more evenly between the rear tires to allow more aggressive acceleration out of low speed corners in autocross-type competition). Pro-Bax seats. The Exige S features hand-laid body panels and a bolt-on body-color hardtop. As standard, the Exige boasts one of the finest sports car chassis on the road today. This Exige is in stellar condition inside and out.
From the moment you swing open the composite door and drop into the leather-trimmed aluminum cockpit, there's no mistaking the Exige for anything but a no-nonsense lightweight sports car. Other than 21st-century necessities like dual airbags, air-conditioning, and a CD player, there's nothing extraneous inside the cabin. The dashboard, pedals, and shift knob are all crafted out of aluminum. The steering wheel is small and purposeful, the seats are lightly upholstered one-piece composite shells with fore-aft adjustment for the driver only. Carpeting covers select areas of the interior; everywhere else the exposed aluminum chassis proudly shows through.
Extensive use of aluminum allows the Exige to achieve its extreme lightweight, without sacrificing rigidity. This is most apparent in the cockpit where the extruded aluminum chassis makes no secret of its presence, joined by race-inspired billet pedals and a drilled-out foot stop on the passenger side. Tipping the scales at a gravity-defying 1,950 lbs., the diminutive Exige remains faithful to the Hethel company's less-is-more school of vehicle production. Like the famous Seven and the Elan, lightweight roadsters that helped put Lotus road cars on the map, the Exige is built around the same concept of joining an exceptionally light and, nimble chassis to a flexible and responsive 4-cylinder engine. With so little mass to haul around, the Exige doesn't need a ton of horsepower to go fast, huge brakes to slow down or massive wheels and tires to handle well.
With the 111-series Exige models having been phased out in 2011 and the current range unavailable in the USA, well-kept examples like this are in high demand and don't remain available long.
