The Focus ST is a comprehensive performance vehicle in a value package and is an absolute blast to drive.
There's no denying the visual charms of the ST. From the outside, the sheet metal contains a mix of creases and curves, while the rather aggressive front-end design and thin front grille are a new Ford design trait, the bulging fenders in front and in back echo the arching roofline and create a very dynamic look from the outside. The more distinctive aspects of its physique are its 18" wheels, "enhanced" front and rear bumpers, rear spoiler, side skirts and most importantly, it's rear centre-mounted tailpipe. It has sleek lines and looks both light and substantial at the same time. The little spoiler at the back, the brightly colored ST logo tucked low into the corner of the grille and the back on the hatch lid tell onlookers that there's something special going on under the skin. The gaping grille mouth in the front serves a cooling purpose. Ford put the 252-horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque version of its 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, mated to the engine is a six-speed manual that offers crisp, confident shifts without much worry or fuss.
Beneath that powerplant package is a variable ratio electronic steering rack that automatically lightens up on the straights and quickens up in the corners. The ST's sport-tuned independent suspension and large stabilizer bars make for a car designed to grip. The 2013 Ford Focus ST's chassis is superb. It is tight, rigid all the while being pliable enough to ensure its worth as a daily driver. What makes the Focus ST stand out are its enhanced driving dynamics. It features torque steer compensation, the ESC system manages torque vectoring and dynamic cornering.
The cabin of the Focus ST is undoubtedly modern. Trims and finishes look classy and inviting, and there's a nicely tailored look to the entire interior that extends to door trim and the Recaro leather seats The Recaro sport seats hug you tightly without the normal uncomfortable feeling of race-like seating. They're well cushioned and allow the driver and front passenger to sit up straight during hard cornering. Focus ST models sport a double-bump style dashboard with the infotainment positioned in a prominent position and ST trim tops off the binnacle with standard gauges for oil temperature, oil pressure, and turbo boost. Also included is an 8-inch touchscreen.
