This car is drop-dead gorgeous. It has the perfect proportions: long hood, short trunk, low and wide all around. This is a confident-looking car with an appealing swept-back silhouette and wide stance. All the classic BMW design elements are present: a chromed kidney grille, prominent line along the flanks and Hofmeister kink in the fixed rear windows. The 4 Series has high-quality materials throughout the cabin and has a well-designed interior. The interior feels roomy, the seats are easy to get in and out of, and the BMW iDrive system is near second nature now. The dashboard on the 4 is extremely clean these days. Just simple black buttons and dials in the central area, with the screen above it.
The 435i's engine is delightful and enthusiastic -- as appealing around town as it is opened up on lonely back roads. An intrinsic smoothness tends to mask the ultimate efforts of the blown in-line six, although there is no doubting its true potential in sport mode, where there is a perceptible improvement in response compared to comfort mode. The engine pulls tall gears with authority and is flexible at part throttle. It will also happily run up to the 7000 rpm redline without running out of breath with its intoxicating exhaust note.
