To harness the extra power, John Cooper Works MINI features a more robust transmission, 4-piston Brembo brakes, Sport Suspension with stiffer front & rear stabilizers, dyno tuning and a suite of top-line hardware. MINI's John Cooper Works Hardtop hot hatch builds on the go-kart-like handling. The car offers three drive settings: Green, Mid and Sport. With each change the throttle gets progressively sharper, the steering more firm and, in Sport, baffles in the exhaust open to create the sort of burbling and popping that has become de rigueur.
With a full body aero kit, exclusive wheels, colors and visual enhancements, John Cooper Works MINI separate themselves from the pack aesthetically, too. The John Cooper Works stands out from the stock Hardtop on which it's based thanks to a noticeably more muscular look. MINI has fitted the hot hatch with a deep front bumper with large air ducts, black trim around the radiator grille, more pronounced fender flares all around and a bigger roof-mounted spoiler. 17-inch alloy wheels and a sprinkling of John Cooper Works emblems add a finishing touch to the motorsport-inspired look.
Inside, the JCW truly embraces MINI's commitment to building "premium small cars," as Alcantara seats, soft touch plastics, and high-quality trim pieces line the cabin. In a bid to make the Cooper more ergonomic, MINI moved the speedometer from the center of the dashboard to behind the steering wheel. The speedometer is equipped with an integrated thin-film transistor screen that can be configured to provide a wide array of information about the car, and it is flanked by a small tachometer. A host of aircraft-inspired toggle switches on the dash enable the driver to turn on or off the parking sensors, the start/stop system, and the traction control. A large, clearly visible toggle switch is used to start and stop the engine. The seats are without fault. They're heavily bolstered and sporty without being uncomfortably tight. They squeeze you down low but leave your shoulders open and are adjustable in every way you'd like. Additionally, the John Cooper Works benefits from model-specific sport seats with integrated headrests, a black anthracite headliner and stainless steel pedals.
