1999 Chevrolet Corvette - 1962 CRC Conversion
The Chevrolet Corvette is the ultimate in iconic American sports cars. Since it first came on the market in 1953, the Corvette has brought affordable performance to the masses, along with some of the most beautiful designs in automotive history. Although each generation of Corvette has its own striking shape, it is undeniable that the first three generations are some of the most beautiful. That being said, the underpinnings can leave some things to be desired in this day and age - and that is where Classic Reflection Coachworks comes in. This car started life as a 1999 C5 Corvette, but received a complete custom body in carbon fiber that replicates a 1962 Corvette.
We are familiar with this CRC Corvette at Park Place Ltd. as we commissioned the build in 2008 at a cost of $85,882 - not including the car. Finished in Torch Red with White side coves and a white soft top, this is an absolutely stunning car in person and will stop people in their tracks at any event you take the car to. The faithfully recreated bodywork is accented with a custom set of SSR wheels with 18-inch fronts and 19-inch rears that sit in front of upgraded high performance disc brakes. What is so great about this CRC Corvette is that you have all the classic looks, but with a reliable - and remarkably capable - chassis and running gear underneath the car.
The interior is largely standard C5 Corvette, except that every surface is now red. In a normal C5, the "red interior" consisted of seats and some door card accents, whereas with this car, even the steering wheel and dashboard are finished in the striking shade. This is very in line with what a C1 Corvette would have looked like from the factory and makes sense with the exterior aesthetics. A more modern style Alpine head unit has been installed that gives more connectivity options than the standard Corvette's stereo, but otherwise, this CRC retains things like cold air conditioning, air bags and power adjustable seats.
Sitting under the hood is the tried and true Chevrolet LS1 V8 - the C5 Corvette was the first car to receive the now ubiquitous LS1, and the original unit is fitted in this car. Rated for 375 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque, the LS1 uses advanced fuel injection and coil-on plug ignition to ensure it makes reliable power in pretty much any situation. This is then paired to a Tremec 6-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels.
CRC ceased production of these stunning Corvettes a few years ago after a 16 year production run where more than 200 examples were produced. As they were known for their high quality construction, the values on these cars have stayed strong and will continue to be appreciated for years to come. This example has been well serviced and has stayed within the Park Place Ltd family, currently on its 3rd trip through our dealership. If you want to enjoy the looks of a classic Corvette with the performance of a newer car, you will be hard pressed to find a better way than with this car.
